I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I left university, all I knew is that I wanted to work in business and wear a suit every day!

I went to university in Cardiff and studied Business Management, within this course we did an Accountancy module. It was in this module that I took the most interest and also got my best result. As a result I decided that this would be my career.

I loved my 3 years at Cardiff and if I hadn’t have ran out of money at the end of university then I may have stayed. Looking back now I am glad that I didn’t. I came back to Worcestershire (just outside of Evesham) and then signed up with a recruitment agency in Worcester. I had then decided that I wanted to work in the city centre.

I got a job with Haines Watts as a trainee accountant, I qualified with them in 2012. It was in these first 5 years that I made a number of contacts that I would now consider my friends. I know that I can call upon these people should the need arise and specific advise be necessary. I met these people at a number of events and would encourage anyone looking to make connections to get out there and go “networking”.

It is with these connections that I have been involved in setting up Worcestershire Advance. I want to be part of an organisation that can give other people starting out in their career the same opportunities that I had 10 years ago. Along with my fellow board members throughout 2018 we will be running and promoting various events throughout the county that will enable attendees to just do that and hopefully learn some new skills along the way.

Worcestershire Advance has been “live” for 6 months now and we continue to go from strength to strength. We are now approaching 50 members and have some fantastic events lined up for this year. If you are interested in finding out more and joining us on this journey, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with myself or one of the other board members.
