September marked the first anniversary of the launch of Worcestershire Advance, and with that in mind we held our first Annual General Meeting (AGM) to reflect on the progress made against our original aims, and to plan the next 12 months.

Worcestershire Advance was set up to support talented professionals, business owners and individuals across the County. We want members to be encouraged to go out networking, to develop themselves, and to invest in Worcestershire’s future.

We want Worcestershire Advance to help Grow, Retain, Engage with, and Attract Talent in the County – #GREATinWorcs

As with any organisation of this nature, there is still a long way to go, but we are proud of what we have all achieved – together – in our first 12 months. There are now 50 of us, and as a Board, we hope that you are excited to continue to work with us to build a better County for Worcestershire’s future business leaders and owners. We have some fantastic events lined up for the end of 2018 and throughout 2019 and have some amazing things to announce to our members soon.

In looking forward to 2019, we have listened to the feedback we have had from members individually, and through our recent survey, and we have identified 8 key aims for 2019, which we are pleased to share with you:-

  • To encourage our members to network with new people, by ensuring our events enable you to meet, chat to, and work with someone you have not met before;
  • To open up our social media channels, blogs and regular communications to our members, so that they can promote what they are doing at work and in the local community;
  • To streamline our events to one per month, with a focus on quality over quantity;
  • To make sure all members have access to, and have the ability to easily contact, each other;
  • To make it easier to be a member by offering more ways to pay for your membership;
  • To ensure we follow-up all of our events, so none of our members miss out if they cannot make it on the night;
  • To look to encompass the wider County in our events and membership;
  • To work with more local businesses to provide discounts for our members.

We also wanted to take this opportunity to inform all of our members (and any non-members reading) of some changes to the Worcestershire Advance Board. Sadly, Phoebe Dawson and Adam Edney have stepped down due to their external commitments, but we are grateful for all of their help and support through the first 12 months of Worcestershire Advance and we are delighted that they have both chosen to remain members. In their place, member Ray Gillespie has been unanimously appointed to the Board, and we look forward to the fresh perspective he will bring.

We would also like to thank all of our members, alongside all of the individuals and businesses that have supported us over the last 12 months. Without all of you, Worcestershire Advance would not exist.

Now it is time for us all to consolidate on this fantastic start, and build an organisation that will support us, and future generations, in Worcestershire.
